Humberto is one of the most well-known advocates for agroecological innovation. He is a specialist in agriculture, genetics, plant breeding and participatory plant breeding. He holds a doctorate in Agricultural Sciences and has received several awards for his role in promoting agrobiodiversity and the development of participatory methods in Cuba. Among them, the Goldman Prize, which is considered the environmental Nobel Prize.
