A Brazilian environmentalist and politician, Tatto was elected into the Federal House of Representatives in 2014, with more than a hundred thousand votes. From 2004 to 2014, he coordinated the Ribeira Valley Program at the Socioambiental Institute, where he worked for the defense of the quilombola communities and articulated the implementation of policies to guarantee the upkeep of those communities. In 2009, he was awarded the Dorothy Stang Award for Human Rights for his role in projects for sustainable economic alternatives and the generation of income among the quilombola communities in the Ribeira Valley.
